Birmingham Business Park

Precise solutions to wide-ranging problems

The challenge

The sprawling Birmingham Business Park (BBP) is home to a multitude of businesses. Over the years the large number of units across this vast estate meant there was an abundance of infrastructure – both inside the properties and throughout the estate’s sub surface ducts and chambers.

As a result no one knew what kit was there, what worked, what was obsolete and what carriers were being used. That made it impossible to properly manage the network infrastructure across the estate.

BBP engaged us as consultants to undertake a full survey and audit to provide a detailed overview of the situation. More importantly they needed tangible proposals to improve the situation.

The solution

In addition to standard desktop surveys and traditional site surveys we used state of the art software to map infrastructure throughout the park.

Our mapping process utilised Geographical Information System (GIS) software that compiled, overlaid and examined data from various sources. An ultra accruate Trimble R10 Global Navigation Satellite system was then used to define, log and plot infrastructure coordinates to within a single milimetre.

This approach gave the landlord exceptionally detailed mapping information together with owner, infrastructure type and condition. For the first time in decades the landlord was able to make an informed decision as to exactly what improvements were needed.
